I ordered a tailor-made dress shirt today for $140. That’s over twice as expensive as the nicest shirt in my closet. And the stylist who helped me has me contemplating these $900 tailored suits as well. WTF happened to me?!

If you combine those, it’s about half a craigslist miata.

I have one suit that still needs to be re-tailored for me. I have no intention of buying another, I really dont enjoy wearing it. I have plenty of clearance rack dress shirts and pants that I pull off quite well.
I will admit however, wearing a tailored shirt or suit does make me feel quite good about myself.

For my job, a nice suit is a must and an investment in success.

And that amount is getting higher every day. Every bro with a first gen Miata thinks they’re selling the next Hoonicorn these days.

Not doing anything to the Beetle right now. Trading it in once I’m eligible for employee lease.

I am so glad I make white collar money with Blue collar clothes. I could not stand that shit.

Hate to break it to you but $900 is cheap in the suit world. My tailor jokingly tries to sell me on a $5000 suit everytime I have another one made.

Yeah, and the quality is dropping precipitously.

You gotta Nordstroms Rack near you? I picked uo a $1,400 navy Hugo Boss suit for $800 last year. You can buy shirts that retail for over $100 for $50-70 all day long too. While not great shoes, I also got a pair of tan wingtip Cole Haans that retailed for around $300 for like $120.

I know that’s not crazy. But it’s a lot for me considering I got 4 pants and 3 jackets for not much more than that when I first started a few months back...

I mean I can find cheap clothes. But these are custom made to fit.

I love buying fancy duds! Bought myself a nice Brooks Brothers suit a few weeks back.

IMO, there’s some major diminishing returns between a nice off the rack, tailored suit and a made to measure.

I think the point was that spending $900 on an outfit was once completely alien to him.

I used to dream about buying nice shirts and suits...then I had to put on a suit for the first time in a year last month and found my neck had swollen an inch and a half...
I went to Kohls and bought two new dress shirts for $50, and went to the internet and bought myself another new track suit to feel better...

$900 for a MTM suit and $140 for a MTM shirt is cheap. You’re still getting cheap clothes, they’re just cheap MTM clothes.

It’s worth it if you can afford it, if it really really fits, and it’s great quality. Morning-getting-ready-for-work-you will thank you.

You went full car salesman. To do that you have to have a closet full of tailored, monogrammed shirts to give the air of luxury. Full professional car salesman is fine just don’t ever go full Trump with your style.

For me John Varvatos off the rack fits like a tailored suit with minor alterations, so I’m lucky in that respect, also have a few gucci MTM, and yes theres nothing like a good MTM suit!

There’s nothing worse than an ill-fitting suit. Go for it! That’s easy for me to say because it’s not my moneeeeeeyyyyyy!
